The lug width of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer CAF2011.FT8011 is 20mm. This measurement represents the perpendicular distance between the two pins that connect the strap to the case lugs. It is essential to verify this dimension before purchasing any aftermarket strap, as an imprecise fit may result in unwanted play or prevent the pins from seating correctly.

There is no universal choice; rather, optimal materials exist for specific use cases. For daily elegance, we recommend alligator in bourbon or walnut tones, or vegetable-tanned leather that develops patina with time. For diving and aquatic use, vulcanised rubber or technical fabric NATO is indispensable. The CAF2011.FT8011 is versatile and favours straps that do not visually compete with its measured, proportioned dial.

The procedure requires a dedicated spring bar tool and careful attention. Position the watch with the lug facing you. Insert the flat end of the spring bar tool into the gap between the pin and the lug, then apply gentle pressure to compress the spring pin. Once compressed, the pin releases from the lug and the strap comes free. Repeat on the other side. To install the new strap, align the holes with the pins and push until you hear a click. Verify that the strap is seated symmetrically on both sides.

Any strap with a 20mm lug width is compatible with the CAF2011.FT8011. This includes alligator, calf, cotton NATO, rubber and exotic leather straps. However, the total length of the strap must be proportioned to your wrist: the strap must not be too long (causing slack) or too short (preventing closure). We recommend bespoke straps to ensure correct length from pin to final buckle hole.

Durability depends on usage and leather quality. Premium alligator typically lasts 3 to 5 years with moderate daily wear. Vegetable-tanned calf tends to wear more quickly (2–3 years) because the fibre is less dense, but develops fascinating patina. Constant exposure to salt water significantly shortens lifespan: for intensive marine use, rubber or NATO far outperform leather, easily surpassing 5 years. We recommend rotating straps and applying regular maintenance (soft cloth cleaning, application of specific balms) to maximise longevity.
