The Complications 5935A-001, seen from the bench

The Patek Philippe Complications ref. 5935A-001 combines the functions of a chronograph and a world time watch in a single timepiece. It is powered by the CH 28-520 HU caliber with a column-wheel chronograph and a 24-time zone indication. The movement also includes the date function and uses the central hours and minutes for the display of local time.

Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Patek Philippe Complications 5935A-001?

No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case with a proprietary attachment: no standard strap will fit. It is a deliberate construction choice, not a shortcoming — but it requires a different approach. In the atelier I build every attachment element to measure, shaped around the actual geometry of that watch.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this model?

I work by appointment only at Casati Milano, in Via XX Settembre 15. I bring the watch to the bench, study the curve of the case and build the attachment by hand, millimetre by millimetre. I do not use standard measurements: every strap is born from that specific watch.

Which leather do I recommend for the Complications 5935A in steel?

I prefer naturally aged Barenia. This watch has a sporting soul but carries the full complexity of a great complicated movement: Barenia reflects that well, starting pale and darkening with wear in an honest way. For a more formal look I choose Mississippi Alligator with large scales — it holds the right tone without sitting heavily on the wrist.

How long does a well-made artisan strap last?

With basic care — keeping it away from prolonged water exposure, letting it breathe between wearings — I have seen Barenia straps last ten years and improve over time. Quality leather does not deteriorate: it transforms. A strap treated with respect becomes part of the watch.

What makes the Patek Philippe Complications 5935A-001 historically significant?

It is the first annual calendar chronograph in steel that Patek Philippe ever produced. Before this reference, a complication of this depth — annual calendar integrated with a chronograph — existed only in gold. Steel changed the audience it spoke to, without touching the substance of the CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H calibre. I have rarely seen a watch capable of combining such technical depth with such a direct character.
