Strap replacement is a straightforward operation: lift the lug outward using a dedicated tool (spring bar tool) or a thin, non-sharp implement such as the back of a pocket knife. Insert the tool into the tiny hole located laterally on the lug, applying outward pressure to compress the internal spring. Extract the lug from the case and remove the previous strap. Insert the new strap onto the lugs and, using the same tool, reinsert the lugs into the case holes until they click into place. Verify that the strap has no lateral play.

Leather strap durability depends on three factors: material, tanning method, and frequency of use. Vegetable-tanned calf leather, worn daily whilst protected from corrosive liquids, lasts between 3 and 5 years before requiring replacement due to structural leather wear. High-quality alligator, subjected to less intense flexion, reaches 5-7 years. Shell cordovan, extraordinarily dense, can exceed 10 years. Factors accelerating ageing include direct sunlight exposure, frequent contact with fresh or salt water without immediate drying, and sweat accumulation. Regular maintenance with leather-specific conditioners significantly extends strap lifespan.
