Frequently asked questions

Can you fit a standard strap on the Louis Vuitton Tambour W1YG10?

No. The bracelet is integrated into the case and the lugs don't accept commercial straps. I've seen people try to force it—it doesn't work. The only option is a bespoke strap built directly onto your watch, from our atelier.

How does the bespoke strap process work for this model?

We work exclusively at Casati Milano, by appointment. I take the measurements directly from the case and integrated lugs, studying the drum's geometry. Then I build the strap in the atelier, shaped to your specific dimensions.

Which leather do you recommend for the yellow gold Tambour?

Mississippi alligator in gold tones or honey Barenia. I prefer these because they speak to the warmth of the gold without competing with it. Yellow gold demands a leather that ages elegantly and holds its character over time, not one that fades.

How long does a well-made strap last?

A strap built with care—noble leather, hand-stitching, metal buckles—lasts 5 to 7 years of daily wear. The leather ages well if you treat it with respect: clean it occasionally, keep it away from direct sun. It wears and patinas beautifully.

Why was the Louis Vuitton Tambour designed as a watch and not just an accessory?

In 2002, Louis Vuitton didn't simply want to add a watch to its collections. The Maison designed a drum case and integrated architecture conceived as sculpture: the same tailoring precision it applies to leather. This is genuine watchmaking, not decoration.
