The lug width of the IWC Ingenieur IW3808-AF is 20 millimetres. This measurement represents the internal space between the two horizontal pins (lugs) that attach the strap to the case. You can verify this easily with a calliper or measuring tape. All compatible straps must have lugs sized for 20mm without any play or tolerance issues.

The choice depends on your personal style. For classical elegance, we recommend a brown or burgundy alligator strap with a polished finish. For a more understated and contemporary approach, vegetable-tanned calf leather offers natural patina and excellent durability. If you seek maximum robustness, shell cordovan is ideal for extended daily wear. For a sporting character, a grey NATO textile or rubber strap transforms the watch's aesthetic whilst maintaining the Ingenieur's technical heritage.

You will need a spring bar tool to perform this operation. Place the watch on a soft surface with the case facing upwards. Insert the thin end of the spring bar tool beneath the horizontal pin (lug) to release the internal spring, then gently remove the old strap. Repeat on the other side. To install the new strap, thread one lug onto the pin first, then press the other lug whilst using the spring bar tool to seat the spring. Ensure the strap does not rotate or wobble on the case.
