The lug width of the Hamilton Jazzmaster H36105170 is 20 mm. This measurement represents the distance between the attachment pins where the strap is fitted. To verify it correctly, position a ruler between the inner shoulders of the two case pins, excluding the shoulder body itself.

The choice depends on use and desired proportions. For formal contexts, an alligator with vegetable tanning at 4 mm thickness enhances the case's elegance. For daily versatility, a hammered calf leather in cognac tones offers robustness and develops a rich patina over time. For humid or dirty environments, vulcanised FKM rubber preserves the movement whilst maintaining aesthetic readability of the 34 mm case.

Strap replacement requires a spring bar tool or a specialist implement with double wire. Position the tool underneath the pin on the opposite side to where pressure is to be applied, lift the internal tension spring slightly, and extract the pin. Repeat from the opposite side. Insert the new strap in the same manner, ensuring that the tension springs are fully seated in the case holes.

Any strap with a 20 mm lug width is compatible. We recommend straps with a thickness between 3.5 and 4.5 mm at the nose to avoid binding with the case. Advised materials include: alligator, shell cordovan, hammered calf, smooth calf, NATO and FKM rubber. Always verify that the spring bars are the same length as the original bars (typically 14-15 mm).

Durability depends on tanning method and usage. A vegetable-tanned leather strap typically lasts 5-8 years of daily wear, developing a characteristic patina. Shell cordovan can exceed 10 years. FKM rubber has similar lifespan but requires less maintenance. Regular maintenance (conditioning with neutral oil every 6-12 months) significantly extends useful life.
