Frequently asked questions
Can a strap be fitted to this Royal Oak Offshore?
The bracelet is integrated into the case: there is no standard lug to attach an off-the-shelf strap. The attachment is proprietary, built around the octagonal structure. In the atelier I work directly on the watch, shaping each connector from scratch. It is the only way to do it properly.
How does the bespoke strap service work for this model?
I work exclusively through Casati Milano, by appointment at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the case with my own tools, and build the connector from the ground up. This cannot be done remotely: the watch must be physically present.
Which leather do I recommend for this Royal Oak Offshore?
On a yellow gold case with a bold, sporting architecture, my choice is vegetable-tanned Mississippi alligator. It has a dense grain, holds up well to daily wear, and develops a patina over time that works beautifully with the warmth of the gold. I would avoid overly soft leathers — they tend to look out of place against such a structured case.
How long does a well-made artisan strap last?
A strap made from quality leather with solid stitching lasts between five and ten years of regular use, sometimes longer. It depends on how it is worn and how much care goes into it. I recommend keeping it away from prolonged contact with water and letting it rest for a few days each month. Good leather does not deteriorate — it ages, and often improves.
What makes the 1993 Offshore different from the original Royal Oak?
When Audemars Piguet introduced the Offshore, the decision was to push Gérald Genta's language towards something more aggressive and volumetric. The case grows larger, the octagonal bezel becomes more imposing, and the hexagonal screws shift from a technical feature to an aesthetic statement. I have seen many sporting watches from that era — few had that architectural clarity. It is not a cautious evolution. It is a firm position.
