Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Royal Oak 77450BA.GG.1361BA.01?

No. The bracelet is integrated into the case: there is no standard lug to attach a replacement strap. The attachment is a structural part of Genta's original design, not a removable accessory. If you want to change the strap, the only option is to have one built to measure, working directly from the case.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this Royal Oak?

I work on this watch exclusively at Casati Milano, by appointment, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I take the measurements directly from the case at the bench and build the attachments by hand to integrate with the pink gold case. This cannot be done remotely, and adapters are not an option.

Which leather do I recommend for this model?

For a pink gold Royal Oak, I favour a smooth alligator in warm tobacco or cognac. The Royal Oak has a precise architectural character — the leather should follow it, not overshadow it. A polished alligator handles both the sporting spirit of the design and the refinement of the pink gold.

How long does a well-made strap last on this watch?

A quality leather strap, properly built, will easily last five to seven years of regular wear. Leather ages: it tends to lighten at the edges, soften against the wrist, and develop a patina that reflects the person wearing it. Care is straightforward: keep it away from prolonged exposure to water and condition it occasionally with a neutral cream.

What makes the Royal Oak such a radical design even today?

In 1972, Gérald Genta drew an octagonal case in steel — at the time a material associated with sports watches — and priced it as high watchmaking. It was a deliberate contradiction. I have seen many sports watches over the years, but few have such a consistent architectural logic between the bezel, the case and the bracelet. That is not an aesthetic detail; it is a constructive principle that still holds today.
