Strap for Royal Oak Self-Winding Flying Tourbillon Stainless Steel / Burgundy

The Royal Oak's bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there are no standard lugs to attach a conventional strap. The connection point is proprietary, with a geometry that Audemars Piguet designed specifically for that case profile. For this reason I build every strap to measure, working directly on the watch in the atelier.

I work exclusively by appointment at <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, Via XX Settembre 15, Milan. Bring the watch with you: I take measurements directly from the case, study the lug angle and the original flush-fitting. I never work remotely on this model — every millimetre of the geometry matters, and I don't trust measurements taken without the piece in hand.

For a steel chronograph with the sporting character of the Royal Oak, my first choice is vegetable-tanned Tuscan leather: it holds up well to daily wear, ages with personality, and doesn't compete with the octagonal case architecture. If the client wants something more formal, I suggest Barenia with a natural patina — it softens over time and develops a depth that suits brushed steel well. Mississippi Alligator with large scales is a third option, for those who want a strong contrast in texture.

A strap built from quality leather and hand-stitched will easily last five to seven years — sometimes longer, depending on use and care. The basic rule is straightforward: keep it away from prolonged water exposure and condition the leather every few months with a neutral cream. Vegetable-tanned leather and Barenia don't deteriorate with time: they develop a patina that tells the story of the years spent on the wrist, and that, to me, is the real value of a handmade strap.

When Gérald Genta drew it in 1972, a sports watch in steel at that price point was considered a provocation. The octagonal bezel with visible screws, the Tapisserie dial, and the integrated bracelet were not decorative details — they were structural decisions that defined an entirely coherent object from case to wrist. I have handled many Royal Oaks over the years, and what always strikes me is how much each element depends on the others: remove the integrated bracelet and the entire logic of the design falls apart.
