Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Royal Oak 26715ST.OO.1356ST.01?

No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there is no standard lug to attach an off-the-shelf strap. The attachment is part of Genta's original architecture. The only viable solution is a bespoke strap, built around the actual geometry of the case.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this Royal Oak?

I work on this type of watch exclusively in the atelier, by appointment, through Casati Milano. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the octagonal case, and build the attachment by hand, millimetre by millimetre. No pre-made templates: every piece is made from scratch for that specific watch.

Which leather do I recommend for this Royal Oak?

I'll be direct: I prefer Tuscany vegetable-tanned leather. The Royal Oak has a sporting character built on precise, severe proportions — a leather that ages with dignity, that marks and tells the story of use, is more honest than a glossy exotic skin. Tuscany leather converses with the steel case without overpowering it.

How long does a well-made strap last on a watch like this?

With quality leather and minimal care, five years is a starting point, not a ceiling. I keep the strap away from water and condition it with natural wax two or three times a year. Over time the leather develops a personal patina which, in my view, is the most interesting part of the whole process.

What makes it so difficult to work on the Royal Oak's design?

Gérald Genta designed the Royal Oak in 1972 as an organic architecture: octagonal case, exposed hexagonal screws, Tapisserie bracelet — every element depends on the others. Altering even just the attachment without respecting those proportions breaks the visual balance of the entire watch. That is why I never improvise at the bench: I study first, then I build.

The next step

The right strap isn't chosen. It is built, together.

From the atelier appointment to delivery, every step is made for those who know that things done well take time. Rare leathers, one piece at a time, eighteen months of warranty.
