Strap for Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 41 Yellow Gold /

The bracelet is integrated into the case: there are no standard lugs to attach an off-the-shelf strap. This was a deliberate design decision by Gérald Genta, and it deserves to be respected. In the atelier, I build the attachment from scratch, directly on the watch, with no geometric compromises.

I only work on this model through <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, by appointment at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements from the actual case, and build every component of the attachment by hand. There is no template: each piece is made from scratch around that specific octagonal geometry.

I prefer Mississippi Alligator in Brown Caramel: the warmth of the leather works naturally with the yellow gold without overpowering it. Alternatively, Natural Barenia has a more austere character and develops a patina that over time becomes part of the watch itself. Both can hold their own against such a visually strong case.

A strap built with quality leather and solid stitching will easily last five to seven years with regular wear. Care is straightforward: avoid direct water exposure and let it dry away from heat sources. Barenia in particular improves with age — the patina it develops tells the story of the time it has spent on the wrist.

When Genta drew it in 1972, a sports watch in steel — or gold — with exposed hexagonal screws was a direct provocation against the tastes of the time. The octagonal case and integrated bracelet were not decoration: they were structure. I have seen many watches from that era age poorly; the Royal Oak has held up because the design was honest.
