Frequently asked questions
Can a standard strap be fitted to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 26557OR.ZZ.D098CR.01?
No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there is no conventional lug where a standard strap can be attached. This is a deliberate design choice, not a limitation. In the atelier I build the attachment bespoke, studying the case geometry watch by watch.
How does the bespoke strap service work for this Royal Oak?
I work by appointment only, through Casati Milano, at Via XX Settembre 15, Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the case and build an attachment that respects the original profile. I never work from photographs or measurements sent remotely: every millimetre must be verified in person.
Which leather do I recommend for this rose gold model?
I prefer Mississippi Alligator in cognac. Rose gold has a precise visual warmth — amber-toned — and cognac complements it without overpowering it. Barenia Étoupe is a solid second choice for those who prefer something more restrained, but on this rose gold Royal Oak, cognac tells the story of the piece far better.
How long does a well-made strap last?
With ordinary care — keeping it away from water, letting it breathe, applying a little neutral cream every few months — a well-built strap lasts five, even eight years. Quality leather does not deteriorate: it ages. Cognac darkens over time at the flex points, developing a patina that speaks of use. I find that one of the most honest things a material can do.
Why is the Royal Oak's design still so distinctive after all these decades?
In 1972 Gérald Genta did something unusual: he took the vocabulary of industrial steel — exposed screws, octagonal bezel, integrated bracelet — and brought it into fine watchmaking. That tension between the two worlds is still there, intact. It is not nostalgia: it is that the geometry follows a structural logic that does not age.
The next step
The right strap isn't chosen. It is built, together.
From the atelier appointment to delivery, every step is made for those who know that things done well take time. Rare leathers, one piece at a time, eighteen months of warranty.
