Strap for Royal Oak Ultra Thin Tourbillon Pink Gold / Baguette / Brown

The bracelet on this Royal Oak is integrated into the case: there is no standard lug to attach an off-the-shelf strap. The attachment is proprietary, designed by Audemars Piguet as an inseparable part of the overall architecture. To work on a watch built this way, I work directly on the piece in the atelier, building everything from scratch. It is not an adaptation — it is a bespoke process that starts at zero.

Everything goes through <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, by appointment only. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the case, and study the transition between the pink gold and the leather. Each attachment is hand-shaped to follow the octagonal geometry of the Royal Oak. The result is a strap that is born from that specific watch, not from a generic specification sheet.

For a pink gold Royal Oak my choice goes to glossy Mississippi alligator: the scale pattern speaks to the Grande Tapisserie texture of the dial without overpowering it. A warm tobacco brown or a deep bordeaux holds its own against the pink gold without feeling predictable. I have seen aged French Barenia work very well for those who want something more understated, but glossy alligator remains my firm preference on this model.

A strap in top-quality alligator or Barenia, with a careful lining and solid stitching, comfortably lasts five to seven years with regular wear. Quality leather does not deteriorate — it transforms. It develops a patina that tells the story of use rather than hiding it. Care is straightforward: keep it away from prolonged exposure to water and occasionally apply a neutral conditioning cream.

Gérald Genta drew it in 1972, in a single night, so the story goes. What still strikes me today is the coherence between every element: the eight exposed hexagonal screws, the octagonal case, the integrated bracelet. All of it was borrowed from industrial aesthetics — and bringing that into pink gold was a sharp break with the taste of the time. I have seen a great many watches pass through the bench over the years. Very few have this ability to be recognised from three metres away.
