Frequently asked questions

Can a strap be fitted to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 26325OL.OO.D005CR.01?

Not in the conventional sense. The bracelet is integrated into the case: there are no standard lugs to attach an off-the-shelf strap. The only viable route is to build a bespoke attachment, directly on the watch, in the atelier.

How does the bespoke strap process work for this model?

I work by appointment only, at Casati Milano, Via XX Settembre 15, Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the case, and shape every millimetre of the attachment by hand, respecting the octagonal geometry of the Royal Oak. There are no templates: every strap is built from scratch on that specific watch.

Which leather do I recommend for the Royal Oak in pink gold?

I prefer Mississippi alligator in a matte finish, in tobacco or dark brown. Pink gold has a warm, deep chromatic tone: leather that is too glossy or too neutral flattens it. Matte alligator engages with the case without overpowering it, and over time develops a patina that adapts to the wrist.

How long does a well-made strap last?

With regular care, five to eight years of daily wear. The leather should be kept away from prolonged exposure to water and conditioned two or three times a year with a product suited to the specific hide. I have seen Barenia straps age beautifully for over a decade: quality leather does not degrade, it transforms.

What makes the Royal Oak such a different proposition from other sports watches?

Gérald Genta drew it in 1972 in a single night, and the decision to present steel — or in this case pink gold — with exposed screws on an octagonal case was a deliberate provocation. The architectural integration between case and bracelet is not an aesthetic detail: it is the load-bearing structure of the entire design. I have seen many sports watches on the bench over the years, but the constructive coherence of the Royal Oak remains something entirely its own.
