Strap for Royal Oak Chronograph 38 Stainless Steel / Silver

The Royal Oak's bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there is no standard lug to attach an off-the-shelf strap. The attachment is proprietary, designed by Audemars Piguet as an inseparable part of the overall design. In the atelier, I build the strap to measure, working from the actual watch case.

The work is done exclusively by appointment at <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the case, and shape every element by hand. I do not work from photographs or technical sheets: the watch must be present.

For a watch with this character — steel, sharp geometry, sporting soul — I prefer natural Barenia. It ages with wear, develops a patina that adapts to the wrist over time, and holds its own against the chiselled steel without overpowering it. Mississippi Alligator in mirror-gloss finish is the other strong option: more formal, very precise, for those who wear the Royal Oak in dressed-up settings as well.

A strap built from quality leather and hand-stitched will easily last five, seven, even ten years with proper care. That means keeping it away from standing water, letting it air dry after heavy use, and conditioning the leather two or three times a year. Barenia in particular does not show its age: it carries it like a second skin.

In 1972, Gérald Genta brought an octagonal case with exposed screws to a steel sports watch at a time when nobody was doing that. Over the years I have seen many watches come across the bench: very few have such a radical formal coherence between every single element. The manufacture movement inside is not an added detail — it is part of the same constructive logic.
