The Royal Oak 25977ST.OO.1205ST.01, seen from the bench

The Royal Oak Tourbillon Chronograph, reference 25977ST, is a 44mm stainless steel sports watch originally designed by Gérald Genta in 1972. Featuring eight visible hexagonal screws, an octagonal bezel, and an integrated bracelet, this model represents the architectural revolution of haute horlogerie sportive with its distinctive "Grande Tapisserie" design.

Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Royal Oak 25977ST.OO.1205ST.01?

No. The bracelet is integrated into the case: the lugs have a proprietary geometry that does not accept a standard strap. There is no universal size that will fit. The only viable option is to build a strap from scratch, directly on the watch.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this Royal Oak?

I only work on this type of attachment in the atelier, by appointment. I bring the watch to the bench, study the lug angles and hand-build each attachment so it integrates naturally with the octagonal case. Book a session at Casati Milano, Via XX Settembre 15, Milan: without seeing the watch in person, I do not accept commissions of this kind.

Which leather do I recommend for this 44mm Royal Oak?

For a Royal Oak of this size and character, my choice is aged Barenia. It is a leather that carries time with dignity, develops a rich patina and never looks out of place on well-worn steel. Alligator is a valid alternative for those who want more contrast, but Barenia is the most honest answer to a watch built to last.

How long does a well-made strap last on a watch like this?

With regular care, a quality bespoke leather strap easily lasts five or six years of daily wear. Keep it away from prolonged contact with water and condition it occasionally with a neutral leather balm. Barenia in particular does not deteriorate: it transforms, and after years on the wrist it has something to say.

What makes the Royal Oak case architecturally complex?

The eight visible hexagonal screws are not decoration: they hold the octagonal bezel to the case and define the entire visual logic of the watch. The bracelet does not attach to the case — it flows from it. When I build a strap for this model, I have to respect that continuity, otherwise the watch loses its coherence.

The next step
