The Royal Oak's lug attachment is an integral part of Gérald Genta's original case design: the lugs flow into the bracelet with a proprietary geometry that does not correspond to any conventional standard. A bespoke strap is, however, entirely possible: it is built directly on the watch by <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, with all measurements taken from the actual case in the atelier.

The Casati Milano craftsman takes the watch during the appointment and records every relevant measurement directly from the case: lug profile, caseback curvature, and radius of each transition. The strap is then constructed from those specific dimensions, with the choice of leather, colour, edge finishing, and buckle guided by the Royal Oak's character and the client's preferences. No generic templates are used — only that precise reference.

The «Grande Tapisserie» dial texture and the alternating case finishes call for a leather with its own structure and visual weight: open-grain Mississippi alligator is the most coherent choice, entering into dialogue with the dial's relief pattern. Box calf is the more restrained alternative, developing a rich patina over time. Ostrich adds a textural contrast between its follicular pattern and the strict geometry of the octagonal case.

A strap built from first-cut leather, hand-stitched seams, and wax-finished edges can last many years with proper care: avoid prolonged exposure to water, rotate between several straps if worn daily, and occasionally condition with products suited to fine leather. Bespoke construction ensures the strap does not work against the lug geometry, reducing structural wear compared to an adapted off-the-shelf strap.

Calibre AP 5900 is an in-house Audemars Piguet movement displaying hours, minutes, seconds, and date within a restrained thickness consistent with the Royal Oak's original dimensional philosophy. Its architecture allows the case to remain slim — as Genta intended in 1972 — without compromising power reserve or precision. It carries no superfluous complications: daily accuracy is treated as the most important complication of all.
