Strap for Royal Oak Selfwinding 41 Pink Gold / Black / 50th Anniversary

The Royal Oak's bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there are no standard lugs to attach a traditional strap. The attachment is proprietary, built as part of the watch's own architecture. I make it to measure in the atelier, working directly on the case with dedicated tools. It is a different kind of work from everything else.

The work is done by appointment only at <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements from the case with callipers, and build the attachment by hand so that it integrates with the original octagonal geometry. I do not work from photographs or measurements sent remotely: the watch must be physically here.

For a Royal Oak in pink gold I go straight to naturally aged Barenia. Its warmth of tone speaks well to the pink gold without overpowering it, and over time it develops a patina that tells the story of use — something a metal bracelet simply cannot do. I avoid leathers that are too formal or too polished: this watch was born sporting and that tension deserves respect.

A strap built with quality leather and solid stitching easily lasts five to eight years with regular use. It depends greatly on how it is cared for: leather does not like prolonged exposure to water, and it should be allowed to breathe by rotating straps. Barenia ages by improving, not degrading: scratches absorb, colour deepens. It is a material that rewards those who genuinely wear it.

In 1972, Gérald Genta did something uncomfortable for the time: he took metal and treated it with an industrial language — exposed hexagonal screws and all. The result was not reassuring; it was provocative. I have seen many watches attempt to replicate that tension between technical rigour and athletic form. None resolves it in the same way.
