Frequently asked questions
Can a standard strap be fitted to the Royal Oak 15467BC.OO.1256BC.01?
No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there are no standard lugs to attach an off-the-shelf strap. The attachment geometry is proprietary and requires a bespoke intervention. I build it myself, on the watch, at the atelier.
How does the bespoke strap service work for this Royal Oak?
I work exclusively by appointment at Casati Milano, in Via XX Settembre 15, Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take the measurements directly from the case and shape every element of the fitting by hand. I do not work from photographs or data sheets: I need the watch in front of me.
Which leather do I recommend for this Royal Oak in white gold?
For a white gold Royal Oak I go straight to naturally aged Barenia. It has a restrained character at first and gains personality over time, much like this watch. White gold has a cool luminosity that Barenia balances without overpowering. It is the choice I would make for myself.
How long does a well-made strap last?
A strap built with quality leather and hand-stitched easily lasts five, even eight years of daily wear if treated with care. I recommend keeping it away from water and letting it breathe between uses. Leather ages and softens: that is not a flaw, it is the memory of the wrist that wears it.
Why does the 1972 Royal Oak still make sense in 2024?
Gérald Genta did something simple and radical: he took the language of industrial steel, exposed screws and an octagonal bezel, and brought it into fine watchmaking. Nobody had thought of it before. I have seen many watches at the bench chasing that formula, but the tension between the case and bracelet of the original Royal Oak remains uniquely unresolved. It is an architectural project, not merely a watchmaking one.
