A standard strap with conventional lugs simply cannot attach: the transition between bracelet and case is designed as a single unified form. The only viable approach is to build a strap to measure, shaping the attachment directly on the watch.

I only work on watches of this kind in the atelier, by appointment. At <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, in Via XX Settembre 15, Milan, I take the measurements directly from the case — I never work from technical sheets or photographs. Each attachment is shaped by hand to follow the curves of the octagonal bezel and meet the original geometry designed by Genta.

For a watch with this character — sporting in its architecture, refined in its details — my choice is Mississippi Alligator with calibrated scale. The scale structure echoes the Tapisserie guillochage of the dial without competing with it. Alternatively, Barenia develops a patina over time that gradually becomes part of the watch itself.

A strap built with selected leather and finished by hand lasts between five and ten years of daily wear, sometimes longer. Quality leather does not deteriorate: it transforms. A few simple precautions — keeping it away from prolonged moisture, letting it breathe — and it will age with character rather than showing mere wear.

In 1972, Gérald Genta did something that seemed wrong at the time: he took stainless steel — the material of affordable watches — and built around it an object priced like a gold timepiece. The octagonal bezel with exposed screws was not decoration: it was a precise structural decision. I have seen many luxury sports watches born since, but the formal coherence between the case, the integrated bracelet and the Tapisserie dial of the Royal Oak remains something entirely its own.
