19mm Straps — Exclusive leathers for precision watches

19mm comes from a balance calculation: cases between 39 and 40mm that would look heavy with a 20mm strap, and too thin with 18mm. Rolex chose it for the 114200, Jaeger-LeCoultre for the Master line, Vacheron Constantin for certain vintage Overseas models. It's not a random middle ground—it's the point where wrist and case stay proportional without the strap dominating or disappearing.

This narrow width also changes how leather ages. On a wide strap, the crease near the buckle is gentle, the leather spreads across more millimeters. At 19mm the crease is tighter: leathers with short fibers, like belly alligator, absorb it well; those with longer, stiffer fibers, like certain thick full-grain leathers, tend to show a sharp line in the first months, then stabilize.

Choosing among the ten families at this width depends mostly on how much your wrist moves through the day. Cordovan, with its compact structure, holds shape and develops shine through friction, but flexes little at first. Ostrich, with its follicles, is more elastic and adapts faster. These are differences you only notice at this width, where every tenth of a millimeter of crease shows.
