Skiving

IT: Scarnitura

Definition

Skiving is a fundamental technique in the world of watch straps, and especially important to me as someone who truly appreciates artisanal quality. This process involves thinning the leather, allowing for better integration between the various layers of the watch strap, such as the lining and the core. It is a crucial phase in preparing components for watch straps using the rembordé technique, ensuring a final product that is more flexible and comfortable. The precision in skiving directly impacts the durability and aesthetics of the watch strap, making it the preferred choice for those seeking quality and comfort. For Milano Straps watch straps, skiving is essential to achieve a high-end product, suited for those who accept no compromises.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it so important?

Without skiving, the folded edges would create a double thickness, making the watch strap awkward and rigid. It allows me to create flat, clean seams.

Hand skiving or machine skiving?

The machine guarantees perfect uniformity, ideal for series production. Hand skiving requires great skill and allows me artistic control over the thickness, adapting it point by point to the needs of each piece. Both are valid when executed correctly.

Does it affect durability?

If done correctly, no. I remove only excess material where it's not needed, without compromising the structure of the watch strap.

The next step

The right strap isn't chosen. It is built, together.

From the atelier appointment to delivery, every step is made for those who know that things done well take time. Rare leathers, one piece at a time, eighteen months of warranty.
